SUPPORT FOR WASHINGTON COMMUNITY FOOD PROJECT

Rotary Washington Forge is a member of the 'Washington Voluntary and Community Sector' Group and this brings together representatives of a number of charitable and support organisations offering help in the town.
With the onset of the coronavirus 'lockdown' the club soon established from them that the provision of food for the vulnerable was the priority issue.
The Washington Community Food Project is a food bank run by volunteers and covers Washington and Springwell. They rely on the goodwill of the community to volunteer and provide emergency food parcels to appropriate individuals and families. The club was therefore grateful to receive a grant of £250 from the District ‘Fighting Fund’ and added a further £500.00 to donate a total of £750.00 to them. Wearside Women in Need is one of the referral organisations for the WCFP and Rotary Washington Forge also helps them through the collection of daily hygiene/toiletry items. The WCFP has therefore been asked to 'ring fence' £250.00 from the donation to go towards providing support for those women and children in Washington who have had to seek the services of WWIN during this difficult time.
