Stainborough Rotary has landed first Rotarian on Mars

Day 1.

Flash News. 

New rocket built by Grandchildren now on count down to launch. Propelled by fruit juice, it promises to be a new adventure. Only room for one because of social distancing.

Day 2.

After some technical issues which delayed take off. I am finally on my way to Mars to make our claim of the planet. I have to say the fruit juice propellant works brilliantly, although the orange bits keep clogging up the carburettor. If I've time I'll call in at the space station for a blackberry crumble - Granddad.

Day 3.

News Flash

Dear Grandchildren, I am well on my way to Mars. Last night I lost my key for the landing capsule. Typical Granddad!! After a lot of floating about I remembered I had put it in a bean tin for safe keeping.

Here I am in the capsule passing over earth and about to press the speed of light button. I'll be there in no time - love Granddad.

Day 4.

Breaking News

Granddad has some emergency repairs last night. just after pressing the speed of light button, the cabin door came loose and was hanging off. It was so windy inside I can tell you. I put the super duper hand break on and went out to make the door safe. Good job I had some gorilla glue to stick it back on. I think the staples are holding fine. It's so quiet with only me out here, should be there tomorrow. Love Granddad.

Day 5

News Flash

First person on Mars. 

Dear Grandchildren. This is one small step for man but one giant relief for me as I was busting for a wee.

Arrived early morning, put the flag up, planted a tree for some Oxygen then had a ride around the planet looking for coffee and cake shop. What a waste of time that was, as there is no one else here. Cannot find any Mars bars either! off to bed now before leaving for home tomorrow. Granddad.x

Day 6.

News Flash

Amazing Rock formation found on Mars. 

Dear Grandchildren, I went out for a last bike ride and discovered 'Colour pool rock mountain' A bit like our lovely granite and limestone mountains back home. It was made of rock with different flavours, and guess what? I managed to get a giant mint slab of rock for you. Sadly I have not seen anyone on Mars but always felt someone was watching me. 

Ready for home now, missing you all very much. I hope you cut the lawn.

P.S. Do you think cardboard will withstand the heat of the re-entry to Earth, as I can't see any heat resistant tiles. Just a thought.

Day 7

Granddad finds two stowaways on board his rocket on his return to Earth.

Just about ready for entry to Earths atmosphere and I found these two characters hiding in the sauna!. The one on the left is called Eunuch Trumptus, he says he once ruled a planet. fake news if you ask me. The character on the right is called Alien, he does not say much and has a bit of an edge to him if you ask me. They both have always wanted to go to Yorkshire. Must go as I can feel the heat rising and see the capsule glowing. Fingers crossed.

Day 8

Home & Safe.

Dear Grandchildren, Your Rocket did its job. It got me to Mars and back safely. Thank you for building it for me and for the opportunity to have such an amazing adventure. Can't wait for the 'time travel' machine - Granddad x
