At the latest Zoom Rotary Club Meeting Amie Morrison, Vice-President of Rotaract, was welcomed as speaker.   Amie, who is a Fifer, is in her fourth year studying Maths and History at St Andrews University. She joined Rotaract in her second year, having already been involved in Interact while at school, which gave her valuable opportunities in public speaking and fundraising.   She also became a University Ambassador, helping with open days and meetings with potential new students, which she really enjoyed.  Having won the chance of a short exchange, available to Scottish students, she visited William and Mary University in Virginia, USA, which opened her ideas to future travelling and living abroad.  Amie made it clear that although Scottish students are in the minority at St Andrews University there are excellent opportunities to meet students of various backgrounds, cultures and experiences from all over the world, as well as adequate University support for Fifers.

In addition to her studies, Amie is an enthusiastic musician playing with many groups, including the G.&S. Society, Wind Band, Classical Ensemble and St Andrews Musical Society.    She showed videos of various concerts she had taken part in, playing the clarinet.   When she played for the musical ‘Chicago’ she was one of three musicians who had to play twelve different instruments between them, in her case the flute (which she taught herself), saxophone and clarinet!   She is hopeful that there will be further musical opportunities before leaving university as she has enjoyed being part of many ensembles, playing all over Fife and in Orkney.

Jill Craig, a musician herself, gave a warm vote of thanks to the very talented Amie Morrison and wished her well for the future.

Rotaract is an important link to future Rotary members.

Over the last 10 years the Rotaract Club of St Andrews has had members from over 30 different countries, but it is great to have a Vice President from Cupar.
