District 1010 - An Introduction   

Club Rotarians are the most important people in Rotary.  There wouldn’t be Rotary without the individual Rotarians in thousands of clubs across the world, all contributing to the fellowship and service of our great organisations.

As with any large organisation, there is a strong support structure to ensure that you enjoy your Rotary.  At the very heart of Rotary International, there is a paid staff, but at District level, all the support comes from volunteers; ordinary Rotarians like you, who have decided to give something back to Rotary.  There is always space in the District structure for more volunteers. 
  

District 1010 Organisation

The District is led by the District Governor, the Immediate Past District Governor, the District Governor Elect and the District Governor Nominee along with the District Secretary and District Treasurer.  In addition, thirteen Assistant Governors are responsible for supporting six to eight clubs in their local Area.

The District Council is the decision-making body and comprises the District Governor, the Immediate Past District Governor, the District Governor Elect and the District Governor Nominee,  District Secretary, District Treasurer and Assistant Governors along with Team Leaders of District Committees and Past District Governors. In addition, all Clubs have representatives depending on the number of members in the Club. Meetings are held twice a year in March and September.

The District Executive is a sub-committee of the District Council and comprises the District Governor, the Immediate Past District Governor, the District Governor Elect and the District Governor Nominee along with the District Secretary and District Treasurer and the Assistant Governors. Team Leaders of District Committees are also part of this committee. The Executive meets four times a year to consider issues relevant to the District and to set the agenda for District Councils.

Presidents Elect Preparation Seminars are held in March each year in order to provide the incoming Club Presidents with information which will assist them in their year of presidency.

The District Assembly is held in late April or early May.  It is an opportunity to discuss the Rotary theme for the year as well as planning the Club programme. As well as a plenary session there is an opportunity to attend breakout sessions for service projects, membership, public image and The Rotary Foundation.

The District Conference is usually held in June at different venues around the District.  It varies in length and is currently held as a one-day event, both morning and afternoon. The Conference concentrates on Rotary programmes and there are opportunities to socialise.

Other District volunteers are responsible for organising the Annual Conference, for Health and Safety, Data Protection, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity.  A full list of District volunteers is found in the District Contact List, an electronic copy of which is in the Members area of this website.
