MOSQUITO NETS FOR KAMBE TIMBONI COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

Agnes Tewa the headteacher of Kambe Timboni Primary school in Kenya asked Leith Rotary Club for funding for mosquito nets for the 320 pupils and 11 staff. The nets were purchased in early October 2020 and delivered to the school. In the picture, Agnes Tewa, on the right is unloading the mosquito nets into the school.

Leith Rotary Club raised £1,000 and successfully applied for a Rotary Foundation District Grant of £500.

During a meeting in November 2019 the primary issue facing the community was the prevalence of malaria illness and death occurring within the school population. Since then Kenya was struck by the Coronavirus pandemic when the government closed schools, shut down suppliers and prevented transport from the cities to the rural areas. Only in October 2020 was the first lockdown relaxed sufficiently to purchase the nets.

The UK charity "Under the Mango Tree" also supports the school and we work closely with them. We transferred funds from Leith Rotary Club through this charity to make the money transfer more efficient.
