Dictionaries 4 Life

For several years now The Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge has donated Usbourne Illustrated Dictionaries to local primary schools. This is part of a wider national project to assist with literacy and educational development.
The Dictionary4Life is produced by Usborne and contains over 10,000 entries and 1,000 illustrations. As well as the illustrated dictionary section, it has a user’s guide, a section on parts of speech and a section of hints and guidelines on writing in English.
Even in this digital age teachers consider these publications to be invaluable teaching aids. In spite all the restrictions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic this initiative has been continued this year.
Over the past few weeks 105 Year 4 pupils in 7 schools have been presented with a personalised copy of one of these dictionaries. The schools involved are Bishop Sutton, Blagdon, Chew Magna, Chew Stoke, Farrington Gurney, Pensford and Stanton Drew.

“Thank you so much for the dictionaries for our year 4 children. They were delighted with them as you can see in the attached photo and had a few words to share with you.” Ms Woods. Teacher.

“Thank you for the lovely dictionaries. We will enjoy them so much and will take good care of them. We have used them at school already!.” Swans Class.
