It was not until late in the Autumn term that Community Chair Sally Mohan SOLELY obtained permission to deliver this year’s 505 dictionaries to the eleven Primary Schools in Guiseley, Yeadon, Rawdon and Horsforth. The picture shows the pupils were not slow in displaying their exuberance.

The Inner Wheel Club of Aireborough’s Halloween Virtual Balloon Race for the charity Jacqui’s Million was won by the imaginatively named ‘Aireborough Rotary’ entry, crafted by Brian and Mitzi Whitham who promptly put the prize money back in the kitty!

The Club’s latest Zoomed meeting heard from Dr Sharad Pendsey founder of the Dream Trust Foundation live from Nagpur in India. He told of shocking and disheartening cases of families living in poverty unable to afford the daily doses of insulin needed by their children with Type 1 diabetes. His charity, with a fundraising arm in the United Kingdom since 1998 provides free insulin, educational scholarship to enable pupils to continue in school and grants for self-reliance in setting up businesses later in their lives.

The Yeadon Town Hall Community Interest Company recently had a grant application to the Culture Recovery Fund rejected which came as something of both a shock and a surprise since they are in the middle of a massive restoration project. Grants they were told only go to ‘honest, cultural and important buildings’. Aireborough Rotary use the YTH for our annual Brass Band Concert, helped run a Fit and Fed activity scheme during the school holidays as well as the Yeadon Beer Festival and have close links with Yeadon Charities. As a result we are joining other YTH users in supporting their cause in writing.
