What’s it all about – Ainsty

Rotary York Ainsty (RYA) was formed in 1960 to give an opportunity for local people to get involved with York and help its many communities. RYA is part of a world-wide network of 1.2 million members and encompasses a healthy York-based volunteer community.

Since then, RYA, along with its volunteer supporters, have raised and distributed many thousands of pounds and instigated numerous home and overseas projects - Changing Lives and Saving Lives

Just what does Rotary do and where?

A visit to the club’s web site (www.tinyurl.com/RotaryYorkAinsty) should tell you all you need to know about regular activities and initiatives. Should you feel you would like to donate to RYA's charitable fund, you can access the Just Giving portal at www.justgiving.com/Rotary-Ainsty and follow the instructions on the page.

As well as assistance for many York projects, the club supports projects world-wide, many funded by The Rotary Foundation (its own charity). Perhaps the most significant of these is Polio Plus, a joint initiative with the World Health Organisation and others to eradicate poliomyelitis from the world.

There are so many advantages of becoming a member of a club, such as learning new skills, developing a passion for something specific, creating a bond with people that share the same interests and, most of all, inspiration of change through mentorship and guidance.

At Rotary York Ainsty you will find people who care about both the local community and disadvantaged people across the world. Regular care and support is either through fund-raising / charitable collections or the investment of time and talent in specific projects and activities.

Rotary is in the unique position of being rooted within its own communities - but with a global outlook - ready to tackle challenges at home and further afield. Rotarians are friends, neighbours, leaders and problem solvers.

Getting involved with Rotary provides benefits to not only communities, but to members as well.

Social networking – Rotary is a great way to expand social circles, meet new people and make lasting friendships, all while having fun and making a difference.

Develop skills – Share personal and vocational skills, take up leadership roles, as well as learning from fellow members of activities such as project planning and delivery and community
Be part of a global community – With more than a million members in 35,000 clubs in over 200 countries, Rotary is a global network of neighbours, friends and problem solvers making a difference in many communities at home and abroad. Rotarians are People of Action.
