COVID-19 has put a greater emphasis on community more than ever, and over the past year we have witnessed many amazing and selfless deeds, each according to their ability and talent. The Rotary Club of Newmarket wishes to acknowledge those citizens in the CB8 area who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in this past year.
In collaboration with The Jockey Club and Newmarket Town Council, we have launched a search to recognise the outstanding individuals in the town to find those who deserve recognition most.
The awards are open to individuals of all ages and are split into 3 categories – volunteer, carer, and fundraiser. Within each category there will be awards for age groups of under 13’s, under 21’s and adults. There will be one award overall for Outstanding Service to the Community 2020/21. The awards are open to individuals as well as groups, but in the case of a group the leader/chair will receive the award on behalf of the group.
Nominations closed on the 31st March. Each nomination receiveD a letter of acknowledgement. Category winners will each recieve a certificate and trophy, and there will also be awards for runners-up and third place nominees. Winners may also, with their permission, be put forward to the Rotary UK Community Awards finals 2022.
A special evening of celebration, Covid permitting, will take place on Saturday 31st July at the prestigious venue of the Jockey Club, who are delighted to host and sponsor the food and drink. Also, support and additional sponsorship will come from our Newmarket Town Council. Clare, Countess of Euston, Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, and Mr Bob Champion CBE have agreed to join us and present some of the awards, on what will be a most memorable evening. An evening, where our Rotary strap line, ‘Service above Self’, will be truly celebrated.
