Rotary acknowledges the dedicated work of volunteers in the community during COVID-19

To acknowledge some of the many volunteers who have supported communities in Washington during COVID-19 we presented certificates of appreciation to say 'Thank You' from Rotary.

MICKEY'S PLACE

The Rev Julie Wing accepted a Rotary ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ on behalf of all those involved with Mickey's Place in Sulgrave. This was awarded to acknowledge and say ‘thank you’ for the wonderful work of all the dedicated volunteers who continue to help local communities during Covid-19 through the provision of food and other vital support and advice for vulnerable residents.

LEN COLE

Len Cole is a worthy recipient of a COVID-19 Volunteer Certificate of Appreciation awarded by Rotary in Great Britain in Ireland. Len is working with Rotary Washington Forge on our community defibrillator project. A local electrician, he is volunteering his time and skills to carry out the installations of defibrillator cabinets thus ensuring the availability of this potentially life-saving equipment for communities at the earliest opportunity. Well done Len and thank you for your ongoing support for this Rotary initiative during COVID-19.

RIC CHAMBERS

For almost a year, Ric Chambers has been repairing and servicing unused laptops and tablets and then donating them to children in Washington to use for their home schooling during lockdown. His voluntary work has already been recognised by local MP Sharon Hodgson and Rotary Washington Forge recently acknowledged his efforts when our club president Ronnie Monaghan presented him with a Rotary in Great Britain & Ireland 'certificate of appreciation' to say 'Thank You' for his ongoing support to the community during COVID-19

WASHINGTON COMMUNITY FOOD PROJECT

The Washington Community Food Project is a volunteer ran food bank covering the whole of Washington, as well as Springwell.  They are an independent charity and do not have paid staff. They rely on the goodwill of the community to volunteer and provide emergency food parcels to people who need them.  The amount of food they have in stock can vary and depends on the donations they receive. WCFP volunteers operate from 4 sites in the town and all provide important ongoing support to their communities.
