Church & Oswaldtwistle Rotary Go Litter Picking

On the 19th April, 14 Rotarians and friends from Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary club were out in force undertaking litter picking. Over the course of the week, they filled 98 bags with trash from the areas around Tinker Brook woodland, Mill Hill, Harvey Street, West End and Foxhill Bank Nature Reserve.

Rotary weren’t the only community group at work this week. The Ossy Litter Pickers and Community volunteers in Church also had a busy time clearing up round John St, Pot House Lane, and Donkey Back picnic area.

In all more than 200 bags plus assorted bikes, prams etc were removed. Dawn Taylor, Environmental team Lead at Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary said ‘It is incredibly sad to see our beautiful green spaces spoilt by so much unnecessary litter. A few selfish people can ruin the area for everyone else. Thankfully, we have a large number of people in Church and Oswaldtwistle who really care about the environment and it is amazing to see what a difference has been made. We very much hope to work together with local groups in the future to ensure that Church and Oswaldtwistle is a place that we can all be proud of’.

If anyone is interested in helping out at future litter picks or other environmental projects, please email Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary at candorotary.org.uk to add your name to our mailing list. Alternatively have a look at Ossy Litter Pickers Facebook page or Church Village Past and Present Facebook for details of their upcoming litter picks.
