Megan Tiddy, a member of the Phoenix Community Club, an offspring of Thame and District Rotary, coordinated the filling up of 97 Rotary Shoe Boxes.

Megan has worked with employees of local businesses in the Thame area to get shoe boxes with presents to be shipped in poor area of Eastern Europe like Ukraine and Republic of Moldova. Megan has received full boxes from the Interact Club of Wheatley Park School as well.

Megan said: “This year we had a great turnout for the Rotary Shoe Boxes. It was so fantastic to see everyone in the Christmas spirit and so generous after what has been a tough year for many.”

The Rotary Shoe Boxes scheme has been run for years with support from Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland with the aim to “spreading a little happiness” to children and adults in poor areas of Eastern Europe all year round.

During the time of the pandemic, Rotary Club of Thame & District and Phoenix Community Club members have continued supporting the local community, have been meeting safely online and have been welcoming 10 new members since March 2020. The clubs’ doors are largely open to welcome new volunteer members.
