On Sunday 9th October Penrith Rotary organised the first Penrith Rotary Trail Run & Fun Run to be held at Dalemain House near Penrith.

The weather was kind, and the rain held off until the event was over and the packing up was completed.

On the day, there were 90 participants in the 10km Trail Race and 15 children in the Fun Run.

As this was a new course the winner now holds the course record, and this honour went to local runner John French from Eden Runners who completed the 10km Trail Run in 38mins 13secs. The first lady, who was also 3rd overall, was Georgia Bell of Leven Valley AC in 41mins 40secs. All results are available here.

Feedback from runners was very positive and although they thought it was not an easy course most said they would be back next year.

Penrith Rotary President, and race organiser, John Shorter said -

“This is one of our first major events since COVID and we couldn’t have done it on our own. We have had lots of help, including sponsorship from SiEntries and assistance on the day from a number of local organisations. I think we can say that the day went well, the weather was kind and everyone had fun. We hope that this will now become an annual event”.

So, our thanks go out to:-

  • The main event sponsor local company SiEntries, who handled both entries and timing of the event very efficiently.
  • Dalemain House for providing us with a fabulous venue and a super scenic course. With particular thanks to Mrs Hasell-McCosh for being so helpful and also for starting both races.
  • To Philbert the Squirrel, the Dalemain Mascot, for doing warm up exercises with the children before they started.
  • To 2 scouts from from Grizedale Troop , Penrith Scouts, who acted as Philbert’s minders for the morning. They did extremely well, keeping Philbert on the straight and narrow, as he can be a bit of a handful sometimes.
  • To Penrith Lions for turning out and helping with the car parking.
  • To the “Friends of Penrith Rotary” who turned out to help.
  • To Theo Weston of BEEP Doctors for providing the medical cover the day.
  • To Morrison’s supermarket for providing fruit for runners at the finish.
  • Finally, our thanks to the participants who turned out and ran what they said was a hard but scenic course.
