Community Award 2021 - 2022

Every year Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club writes to circa 12 local Parish Councils asking for nominations of individuals who have demonstrated a significant voluntary contribution to their local community. There is no age restriction for nominations and the contribution that a nominee makes to their community is often very different one year to the next. What the Club is looking for is someone who has made a real tangible difference to their community, ideally over a period of time.
Nominated by Stowey Sutton Parish Council, the 2022 Award was presented jointly to Sally Monkhouse and Heather Clewett for all the hard work they have both put in over many years in respect of the Stowey Quarry campaign and associated court case. They led and organised the Stowey Quarry Action Group whose tireless campaigning halted the dumping of unlicenced materials which would otherwise have entered into Chew Valley Lake and contaminated the drinking water for the whole area.
Sally and Heather are pictured each receiving engraved rose bowls presented by Martin Palmer, President Elect for the Club.
