Knighton Rotary supports Rotarian doctors in the Ukraine

Working out how to best support those so badly affected by the ongoing situation in the Ukraine was a challenge for the members of the Rotary Club of Knighton and District. As Rotary President Margaret Thorp said “We wanted to be sure that our donations were going to be spent in the most direct way possible, as it is our local community that supports us in our fundraising efforts”

The Rotary Club’s first donation of £500 was to the DEC organisation which was matched by the Government in those first few weeks after the invasion.

But as incoming Rotary President Kim Smith said “Our members wanted to support a more long-term project in the Ukraine and donating £500 to the International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals (IRFHP) seemed the best way to do that” This charity works only through Rotarians, and not any third party, so that all money is channelled directly where it is needed. As

Dr John Philip of the IRFHP says “Our medical aid is targeted in response of specific requests from medics in the Ukraine, such as delivery of children’s antibiotics, and source medical items through Rotarians in Europe” You can donate to this excellent charity through their website.
