MUSIC BY THE LAKE

The Rotary Club of Senlac’s Music by the Lake returned this year after a two-year Covid forced break. Held in the Westfield Lane, St Leonards on Sea, garden of Rotarian Pat Connor the event was expanded to cover two days, August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday. The first day was headlined by the renowned local jazz singer and pianist, Liane Carroll who was accompanied by her husband, Roger Carey; she entertained the 150 audience with a large selection of songs and music in her inimitable manner. Monday was headlined by the ever-popular group, The Rockitmen, who as they always do, hit the right beat for the 350 plus people there. University student, Sarah Freemen, charmed the audience with her voice and songs as the support artiste for both days. The club is very grateful to Sarah who refused any fees for taking part in the event. The weather held fair with many warm sunny periods and the audiences were able to enjoy their picnics as they listened. The event was superbly organised by Rotarian Marcia Bryant and her daughter, Hannah, while Marcia’s niece’s children and friends donated £50 from selling home-made sweet cones.

Thanks to the 500 people who came along over the weekend, a massive £5,500 profit will go to Senlac Rotary’s funds for distribution to charities and good causes; the main recipients from this event’s proceeds will go to Dom’s Food Mission, about which Jo Kilmartin of the Mission spoke to the audience, and the club’s own charity the Yellowmen.

Organiser Marcia Bryant said, ”It was a fantastic weekend and a fantastic amount of money was raised thanks to everyone who helped and came along. I want to thank my parents, Pat and Judy Connor, for the use of their wonderful gardens again. What a weekend!”
