Speaker
this week was
Lia Pimentel De Magaihaes from Porta, Portugal, who is vice chairman of
the Rotaract Club within the university. Lia showed photographs of
her family and spoke about her life and interests -music and dancing-
in Portugal before she came to study in St Andrews. Several Rotarians
have already visited Portugal and she explained that Porto was known
particularly for football and wine. Lia studies International Relations
and Sustainable Development, and she talked about
the places in the world to which she has already travelled. She
recently spent four weeks in South Africa which she particularly enjoyed
as she was working as an assistant looking at wild life. Now
in her second year of study, she has already arranged for her next few
years to be first in Melbourne, Australia, and then in Bergan, Norway,
before she returns to St Andrews for her fourth year of study. Lia is a
young woman who has grabbed every opportunity that has presented itself
and is clearly going places. Colin Mitchell, who knows
Lia well, gave the vote of thanks, commenting on how much she has
matured during her time in St Andrews and wishing her well for the
future.
