One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio - Sunderland landmarks lit in purple

Thank you to Sunderland City Council for helping us mark World Polio Day 2022 by illuminating a number of landmarks in purple this evening. Since 1985, Rotary’s key humanitarian priority has been to rid the world of polio and today, the number of cases is down by 99.9%.

The Purple4Polio activities within Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland are to raise funds and awareness for End Polio Now, Rotary’s global campaign to eradicate polio across the world. Why purple? - when a child receives their life-saving polio drops on mass polio immunisation days, their little finger is painted with a purple dye so it is clear they have received their polio vaccine. #WorldPolioDay2022 #PolioEradication Sunderland, UK Rotary North East England Rotary Editor
