Rotary supporting Ukrainian Refugees

Earlier this year Rotary’s own charity, the Rotary Foundation, made available grants to help Ukrainian families settle in the UK. The grants were publicised through the Chew Valley Ukrainian Support Group based in Chew Magna. We were able to help families in so many ways including clothing, school uniforms, transport costs, laptops especially for children, courses, nursery care, even membership of Chew Valley Rugby club.  As a Rotary club we applied for 23 grants and have been delighted to support these families who so often arrived here with almost nothing. Across our district Rotary Clubs have helped well over 100 families with a total grant expenditure of in excess of £65000.

However, that fund is now exhausted and we are attempting to raise further funds with a race night.

Rotary has also been able to obtain a significant number of children’s gifts from the Kids Out charity ahead of Christmas and I was very happy to join the Chew Valley Support Group on Monday this week to take part in the distribution of some 40 gifts to the families. They were extremely grateful for all we are doing.
