Moshchun - a story of one village in Ukraine

Destroyed and re-built

In July 2022 we heard from Rotarians in Ukraine of a scheme to provide temporary shelter for villagers whose homes had been destroyed.  As a result Rotary International launched a campaign, in partnership with UA Dreams, to provide a minimum of 300 temporary homes in Moshchun for returning villagers – potentially housing over 1000 people. This township was in the line of advance of the Russian columns and suffered 85% destruction when they invaded in February and March.

UA Dreams designed a portable chalet house that can accommodate a family of four in warmth and comfort whilst they rebuild their own home – and can then be moved on to the next family in need. Each home costs $12500 (roughly £10500). These had to be in place by the end of September as that is when the winter starts.

As a District we hoped to raise sufficient funds through our Clubs to purchase three units.  Once again we under-estimated the generosity of the public and Rotarians in this area - we actually raised sufficient money to fund seven homes.
