Generators

The message from Rotarians in Ukraine is that generators and uninterruptible power supply systems are desperately needed for communities, families and key facilities including hospitals, water pumping stations and much more

In November 2022 our Ukrainian Rotarian contacts told us that generators and power supply systems were unavailable to purchase in Ukraine so must be sourced outside the country.

• Poland has some availability (costs start from around £500)

• Used generators (serviced and in working order) also welcome

So what have we been able to do?

Our District was able to use a Rotary International Disaster Response Grant of $25,000 to buy generators.

In November 2022 we purchased the first of the two generators we planned to send to Ukraine. It was a Hyundai 34kva diesel generator sourced through the good services of Rotarian Paul Charter of Newent Rotary Club near Gloucester. On top of a 10% discount for Rotary (just under £9000 instead of £10,000), he also managed to get the suppliers to provide free transport to his depot, and we have free transport to Odessa, where it has now been installed at a children’s hospital.

In December a further 19 smaller generators (4 & 5 KVA) have been purchased and are also being sent to Odessa; these can be linked together for larger applications or used to power individual housing units.
