District Young Musician Final

Held Saturday March 4th at Islwyn High School

ROTARY  YOUNG  MUSICIAN  DISTRICT  FINAL

Another very successful Rotary Young Musician district final was held on Saturday, 4th March at Islwyn High School, Blackwood and the organisers welcomed incredibly talented young people from across Southern Wales.

During the afternoon the audience were treated to six wonderful vocalists.  Adjudicators Jeanette Massocchi and Stephen Marshall spent quite some time in coming to their decision because as ever the standard was very high.

The winner was Mared Eos Phillips, sponsored by Narberth & Whitland Rotary, her programme was very varied and included Astonishing - Howland/Dickstein, Du Bist Die Ruh – Schubert and Lascia Ch’io Pianga – Handel
.
Later in the afternoon the audience were again enthralled by performances from our Young Instrumentalists.   The winner was pianist Charlotte Kwok, sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Aberdare and Rhondda.  Her pieces were Liebeslied – Schumann and Triana – Albeniz.

The adjudicators were Daniel Bickerton, Dan Davies and Harry Brain.  An interesting fact is that all three had taken part successfully in previous Rotary Young Musician District finals and all agreed that the support of Rotary and the experiences gained by performing in front of an audience helped build their confidence especially when sitting grading exams.

District Governor Wayne Morgan presented all those taking part with their participants certificate and certificates to the Winners and Runners-up.

Thank you to Stephen David who was the MC for the day and to all members of Abertillery & Blaina Rotary and the members of Abertillery & Blaina Inner Wheel for organising and running the two finals.
