About Côr Meibion De Cymru: The South Wales Male Choir

CMDC is one of the foremost male choirs in the principality. The Choir is proud of its reputation for harmonic singing from a wide repertoire, including Welsh tunes, show songs, selections from opera and popular melodies.
Formed in 1982, the Choir brings together men from many areas across South Wales. There is also a contingent of members from Bristol, Wantage and  Southampton.  Choristers travel weekly to practice groups at different locations, each with its own conductor and accompanist. The whole choir rehearses every 2 - 3 weeks under the direction of Musical Director Rhiannon Williams.
The Choir has performed in many prestigious venues throughout the UK including the Cathedrals of St Davids (Pembs), Llandaff, Brecon, Hereford, Norwich, Winchester, Salisbury, Southwark, St.Albans, York Minster and Romsey Abbey. Concerts have also been performed in The Royal Albert Hall (London), The Colston Hall (Bristol), St David’s Hall (Cardiff) and Oxford Town Hall as well as our very own St. Nicolas Church, Newbury.
Numerous overseas concert tours have been undertaken with visits to the USA,    Mexico, Canada, France, the Benelux Countries, Monaco, Australia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Gibraltar and more recently Belgium, Germany, and Austria.  In Europe the Choir has performed in the Cathedrals of Chartres, Notre Dame, Amiens, Ypres and Hertogenbosch. Other prestigious venues for concerts have included the Sydney Opera House, the Great Hall of Parliament in Canberra, Brisbane Cathedral, the Crystal Cathedrals in Los Angeles and San Diego, the Congress Hall in Ottawa and the Roy Thompson Hall, Toronto.
The Choir broke new ground in 2011 and embarked on a concert cruise to the Baltic States, performing on board as well as on land in Tallinn (Estonia), St. Petersburg (Russia) and Kristiansand (Norway). Returning to sailing five years later to the Fjords.
In 2014 at invitation of the Western Front Association, an emotional tour took place marking the centenary of the First World War, singing in Ypres,(Belgium) and Amiens (France) ending at Euro- Disney Paris. The most recent tour, last September was to Austria where concerts were held in the beautiful Cathedrals in Vienna and Salzburg.
A lot of the Choir’s work is in aid of deserving causes and the choir has a proud record of raising funds for various charities, including Newbury Rotary Club and its causes.
