Billericay Signs Shine Forth

We complete renovation of the threeBillericay signs which mark the main entrances to Billericay along Stock Road, London Road and Noak Hill Road .

Signs Shine Superbly!

The Rotary Club of Billericay agreed to accept responsibility for the three Billericay signs which mark the main entrances to Billericay along Stock Road, London Road and Noak Hill Road from the Billericay Society.   These fine signs were installed by the Billericay Society in May 1993 to mark the 40th Anniversary of the late Queen’s coronation, and were maintained by them until they handed over responsibility for them to our Rotary Club in November 2021.

We reported last month on the innovative “Balloons” decoration to one of the signs (in Stock Road) to mark the 2024 Paris Olympics, a delight to all who saw it.

Three years after the handover, the signs were beginning to show the affects  of weather, and paint and stains were beginning to fade.  It was time for a renovation.

Where are they?

We thought we could get the signs renovated and repainted without anybody noticing.  But no chance. No sooner had the first sign gone for the work to be undertaken than people noticed and the Billericay Town Council started to receive queries about the whereabouts of the signs.

Deborah Tonkiss, Billericay Town Council Clerk, made contact and we were able to reassure her that nobody had stolen them and the work would soon be completed.  All renovation has now been done and they have been returned to their rightful positions.
