We have been supporters of The Rotary Foundation’s End Polio Now campaign for decades, raising money for it every year. Each time we try to maximise what we raise by claiming as much legitimate Gift Aid (25% addition – thank you Chancellor) as we can and exploit the crowdfunding organisation’s (GlobalGiving) campaigns to add a bonus to these amounts. This year we used two GlobalGiving Campaigns – July Bonus Day and Giving Tuesday.
We had three projects to raise money for End Polio Now:
What did we raise? The first Paella Party project raised a total of £1085. The Charter Lunch collection, shortly after World Polio Day, raised just under £650 after fees. The Christmas Challenge raised just over £1885 including just under £200 raised by the children of Buttsbury Junior School.
So the total amount raised for End Polio after fees but including the bonus was just over £4250.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will triple every pound which Rotary Clubs donate to End Polio Now, so this charity gains an additional £8505 from these three projects, to a total of $16,090.
Using UNICEF’s estimated cost of a single vaccination starting at 10c, this means these three projects will have funded up to more than 160,000 vaccines.
