Volunteering

Adrian Hughes

We were back at Stonecross Manor on 3rd June when the speaker was one of our own members and Past District Governor, Adrian Hughes, who, at the beginning of Volunteers Week, spoke about his experiences as a mentor for Young Enterprise and The Prince’s Trust.  His experience with Young Enterprise was an eye opener both in Kingston-upon-Thames and locally in South Lakeland; most notably the difference in the way the girls and the boys tackled setting up a business, marketing and selling their product.  The challenges of The Prince’s Trust were somewhat different, especially when things didn’t go according to plan, but rewarding, nonetheless.  More recently Adrian has also volunteered in the Literacy Hour, which took up a whole morning, at his small local primary school and has been delighted to see some of those young children flourish as adults.
