Kendal Resilience Project

Tom Rumsey

The speaker on 23rd July was Tom Rumsey who works two days a week for Kendal Town Council (and for the National Trust for three). He is the Resilience Officer locally in Kendal and area.  The project focuses on enhancing the towns ability to prepare for and recover from emergencies. At present the emphasis is on flood management. The project involves constructing flood defences, improving natural flood management, and strengthening community preparedness through refreshed plans and established networks.

He described how a Resilience Community works supporting the work of the statutory services.  We may be called upon to assist with situations that occur.

The meeting was two days after a very successful Garden Fete in Abbot Hall Park. On a fine afternoon local charitable organisations, businesses and bands gave visitors the opportunity to take part in various activities and to enjoy the atmosphere.
