District 1070 Ride for Rotary

 A four day motor cycle ride starting on 28^th April to promote Rotary in the East Midlands whilst raising funds to support the End Polio Campaign.

 On Tuesday 30^th April as part of their planned schedule Rotarians Ian Day, Julian Winch, David Smith, Mike Norman and Alexander Cooke arrived at the Ship Inn, Oundle where our president Jo Elwood met them.

We were pleased to present William Roberts with a cheque to support his call up to Team GB to participate in the World Swimming Championships in Portugal.

Kate Winslet is progressing well at her new school in Nairobi. A hard working and capable girl we are pleased to continue to provide some support through the Marafiki Trust to enable Kate to continue her education.

Oundle Rotary - the last 6 months

It’s been a busy 6 months for Oundle Rotary Club.

Running a Fundraising Tombola stall at Oundle summer Fair in July.

Sponsoring Joy, Kindness and Resilience awards for Oundle Primary School pupils.

Providing additional sponsorship  through the Marafiki Trust to enable teenage orphan  Kate Winslett in Nairobi to continue on to high school education.  Kate started her new school in January.

We manned the car park at the ever popular World Conker Championships

Jo, our President laid a wreath at Oundle’s War Memorial during the Remembrance Day service. 

Our Christmas concert with the Peterborough Salvation Army band was a well-supported enjoyable evening. We helped Santa in his  Grotto at Oundle Christmas Market and Santa’s Sleigh toured Oundle and the surrounding villages providing lots Christmas fun to very excited children.

The proceeds from our successful fundraising activities will now be distributed to our chosen good causes.

This year’s chosen charities are:

Medical Detection Dogs – based in Milton Keynes, the charity works to improve early detection of diseases e.g. Parkinsons by harnessing the power of a dog’s nose.

Headway East Northants  –  helping adults with acquired brain injury to enrich their lives.

Oundle Town Football Club –  offering football to all ages and abilities from age two to veterans.

Sponsorship funding to assist local Downs Syndrome World and European swimming medallist William Roberts.

Continued Sponsorship for Kate Winslett’s education in Nairobi.
