About us

Welcome from our Joint Presidents – John McMillan and Andy Bennetts

L to R -John McMillan Joint President, Irene Ogilvie Outgoing President and Andy Bennetts Joint President

Who are we?

We are a group of people who work together to improve and make a difference to the lives and communities both locally and globally.

What do we do?

To provide financial support we organise fundraising events such as our annual Charity Golf Tournament and we have a Community Chest fund where financial support of up to £300 is available for projects which benefit the community. We have an active Youth programme working with local primary and secondary schools encouraging development events such as the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.

We also support Knox Academy in their local challenges such as Young Volunteer, Young Environmentalist, Young Writer, etc. We have provided financial assistance to junior sports teams. We support Blooming Haddington in making Haddington a beautiful town to live in. We provide a range of services to support the successful running of events such as the Haddington Show, the Farmers Market etc. We organise Santa’s visit to Haddington and his tour around the town. However it is not all work and no play!

It is essential to enjoy ourselves and have fun while fundraising and supporting good causes , and so we organise regular social events both within our usual meetings and other external events where partners and friends are welcome to join us.

We have a new and exciting nature project starting this year. Rotary Haddington have secured a 25 year lease on a piece of ground between the Acredales estate at the south west of Haddington and the River Tyne.  This 6 acre area will be transformed over time into an attractive, accessible and biologically diverse space for all to enjoy.  Developments will be posted on our Facebook page, and although Rotary Haddington have arranged the lease, we see it very much as a Haddington project involving many other local groups such as Friends of The River Tyne and Blooming Haddington to name just two.

Our motto this year is -

 SERVICE - FRIENDSHIP - FUN

Friends of Rotary Haddington

We appreciate however that working practices have changed over the past few years and many people do not have the time or availability to commit to regular meetings .  If you are in this position but would like to help occasionally on specific projects , we have a list of volunteers who would like to be involved in some of our activities.   If you are interested in being put on this list please contact us.
We are very much looking forward to working with fellow Rotarians , the schools and the community  and charitable organisations and hope that we can continue to make a difference locally and internationally.
