Our scheduled meeting was an interesting talk by Doug Niven and Ian Calder about plans for the Jim Clark Trust but the meeting also took urgent action to help with the crisis in the Philippines that has arisen in the preceding week

Eleven members of Eyemouth Club paid us a visit to support their team in the District Quiz, but first they had to endure our Special General Meeting.

Know Your Blood Pressure


We hosted a very successful Know Your Blood Pressure event in Duns on 11 May to raise awareness about high blood pressure and stroke. The Scottish Ambulance Service were on hand to take blood pressures and give advice and saw nearly 100 people.

Club Meeting - A Trip to the Galapagos


Our speaker for Thursday 11th April was Duns Rotarian Dave Denyer who gave a slide presentation of some of the flora and fauna he and his wife saw on a recent visit to the Galapagos islands.

President's Quaich


Founder President Ken Candlish and his wife Isobel sprang a very pleasant surprise on the Club when they presented it with a President's Quaich, for retention by each President henceforth during his/her year of office.

President's Night is a regular feature of the Duns Club's year and this year took the form of a formal dinner at Gavinton Village Hall, complete with a range of entertainments.

Santa's Visits to Duns


Santa kindly agreed with Duns Rotary Club to visit Duns and area in the days before Christmas. His sleigh is a special one supplied by Redpath Tyres and he completed all his planned visits despite some very wet weather.

Scocha Concert


In a joint venture between Duns Rotary and Duns Opera, the popular Borders based band 'Scocha' played to a capacity house at Duns Volunteer Hall last week. Over £2000 was raised for local and international good causes.

KIdsOut Day


Each year the Duns Rotary Club works with Berwickshire High School to take a group of young people on a special day out as part of the KidsOut programme. This year we visited East Links Farm Park, near Dunbar.

Citizen of the Year Presentation & Business Meeting


Each year, in partnership with the Berwickshire News, Duns Rotary Club invites nominations from the community for a Citizen of the Year. 2012 winner is Rev Donald Gaddes who received his trophy at the club's meeting of 17 May.

Kabango School


We have been working with Mary's Meals for some time with a view to funding an additional school kitchen in Malawi and have finally handed over £7000 for that purpose.

Pick-a-Fence Horse Trials


Our 'Pick a Fence' cross country event, held on 19/9/10 at the Aitken Walker Livery Centre, raised £2,200 for The BGH Kidney Dialysis Unit.

14 couples attended the District 1020 Conference in York, including 4 who shared a bus with Haddington Rotary Club. It proved to be a very successful and enjoyable trip.
