Canal Boat Trip Dycourt's Special School of Harold Hill

Rotarian Jim Haines was delegated to attend the Rotary-sponsored canal boat trip arranged on  behalf of Dycourt's Special School of Harold Hill on 2nd July 2012.

Two coaches of children, with their teachers, travelled to the CANALABILITY project depot on the River Stort just outside Harlow, where they boarded two of their boats for a 4-hour cruise in the country.  Volunteers from the CANALABILITY project - previously known as the Canal Boat Project - gave of their time to make this a special day for the children, all of whom had the opportunity to steer the boats and to help when locks had to be opened or closed for passage.

This is an event which has taken place for a number of years, and which all the teachers and children enjoy immensely. The ROTARY CLUB of HORNCHURCH & UPMINSTER have had links with the boat-charity for a number of years and it is hoped to continue to do so into the foreseeable future on an annual basis.
