Rotary Young Musician ( Instrumentalist) 2013

..and another winner ! We are delighted to announce that Rosie Sutton came first in the National Final of the Young Musician[instrumental] Competition. She competed against 7 others in the final.  Rosie is a pianist and played

   Des pas sur las Niege                Achille- Claude Debussy   and  

   Toccata in E flat minor                Aram Khachaturian.  

Over 3000 talented young instrumentalists from all over the UK entered the competition.  Rosie is a pupil at Millais School.  Many congratulations.  

Rotary Young Chef 2013

We are delighted to announce that Jordan Powell from Forest School defeated over 6000 contestants to win Rotary UK's Young Chef Competition in the final held in Cheltenham on Saturday 27 April 2013.   Congratulations to Jordan who wins some fantastic prizes to Siobhan Denning, Head of Forest and Horsham Rotarian and all of her staff who helped make this possible and to  Lewis Hamblet Executive Chef of South Lodge Hotel and all the other staff at the Hotel for their mentoring and training of Jordan.  South Lodge and Forest School, by coincidence, are both Corporate Members of Horsham Rotary Club. 

Easter Bunny Hunt

The winners of our  Annual Bunny Hunt  around Horsham's shops will be announced shortly.  

Know Your Blood Pressure Day

Over 200 members of the public had their Blood Pressure taken at our 'Know Your Blood Pressure Day' in Swan Walk on April 20th. . Members of the Community Responders Organisation, the Phoenix Stroke Club and Horsham District Council's Wellbeing Team were available to answer questions and give advice.   

PancakeRaces 19th February

Thanks to everyone involved in making this year’s Horsham Pancake Races such a huge success…… especially the Racers, Sponsors, Flippers, Commentators, Photographers, Marshalls, Collectors and, of course  the marvellous spectators. Corporate Rotary Membership

We are delighted to announce that the fantastic South Lodge Hotel ; Forest School and Sussex YMCA have all become Corporate Members of Horsham Rotary Club. If you would be interested in becoming a Corporate member, please contact us and we will tell you more !

Horsham Younger Rotary

The next Horsham Young Rotary meeting will be held on Tuesday5th February  at 7pm at the Y Centre. If you are interested in finding out more about this thriving new group, please email horshamrotary@btconnect.com and let us know. Nearly 20 Members have joined in the last few months !!

Making a Difference to Horsham

We have now donated over £30,000 since March 2011 to satisfy some 170 requests received from local families and organisations. If you know someone who needs a little help, and that help would make a big difference to their lives, let us know by contacting us through this website.We will deal with the request promptly and confidentially.

PAST EVENTS

Quiz in aid of Horsham's First Responders

We held a Quiz and Games Evening on January 26 in aid of Horsham Community Responders and raised an amazing £1300. Massive thanks to everybody who supported the event.  

Christmas Collections

During December we raised over £5000 with our Xmas Collections in and around Horsham. We thank everyone who suppported us.  The money was used to support needier individuals and families in our Town  ( in conjunction with Age UK Horsham;  the Y Centre; the Horsham Debt Advisory Service and the Salvation Army). In addition we made donations to the Night Shelter and to ARK to support their magnificent efforts with the local homeless.

iPudsey & Pals Parade & Party   

Horsham Rotary handed over a cheque for £4150 from their Pudsey & Pals Party and generous donations from many local traders. An extract of the Party was shown during the main Children In Need Programme.

 Christmas Charity Market  

Carfax  Sunday 25th November.   Good fun was had by all ...until the rain came !  Nevertheless many people enjoyed the Steam Bus Rides around the Town, music from Heart Radio and of course the Market. We raised £450 and donations from our Treasure Island Game will be going to the following 3 charities as selected by the Public... St Catherine's Hospice, Chestnut Tree House and Cancer Research UK .  

Set4Success

21 talented young Sports people were honoured at the 2012 Set4Success Award Ceremony at South Lodge in June. Sophia Warner, paralympic sprinting  champion, presented the Awards whilst BBC TV's Davie Benson Phillips compered the event.

Great Easter Bunny Hunt

The winners of this Years's Bunny Hunt around the shops of Horsham Town centre were Evie Roberts, Brennan Edwards, Jodi Hawkins, Alice French, Imogen Brow and  Ella Smith. Well done to all of them. 

Easter Charity Market 

This year's Easter Charity Market took place in the Carfax on Sunday April 1st ...Rotary raised £240 which was distributed by Public Vote to Macmillan, Cancer Research and St Catherine's Hospice. Thanks to everyone who supported the event...Horsham District Council, Horsham Markets, Horsham Festival of Sound for providing some great music, Arthur Lodge Vets for providing the Animal Farm, Busydays for the facepainting ...and all of the stallholders and public for supporting  many great causes.

.Horsham's 4th Annual Pancake Races

 19 Teams and 10 Mascots competed in Horsham Rotary's Pancake Races, sponsored by Ringway, on 16 February.   Overall Winners were Sainburys who won back their own Trophy, Music Bus ( Non Stop Party Shop Shield for Best Fancy Dress ),  Winston's Wish ( Rotary Cup for Winning Charity), Rotary Club of Horsham ( Waitrose Cup for winning Over 40 Team),  Innocent Ncube ( Rawlison Butler Cup for Best Flipper) and Hannah Batten ( South East Hearing Centre Cup for Best Individual Fancy Dress).  Barney the Bear won the Ringway Mascot Cup.    The monies raised on the day will be donated as follows.. £200 to Guide Dogs for the Blind ( Charity nominated by  Winning Tean from Sainsbury ); £200 to St Catherine's Hospice ( Most Nominated Charity ); £100 to Winston's Wish and Set4Success ( Next most nominated); and £250 from the Bucket Collection to the Children's Trust for organising the Mascot Races.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated....and special thanks to Compere and Commentator TV's Dave Benson Phillips for another magnificent job.

 Children in Need ..Pudsey & Pals Party 

Thanks to everyone who supported our Children in Need Events this year. We raised £3200 for the Charity which we presented live on the 'Children In Need' TV Show on December 18th.  Particular thanks go to More Than, Mr Simms,Woodlands Estate Agents, and the staff of Horsham Council ( particularly Garry Mortimer-Cook who grew half a  moustache to raise funds)  for their generous donations..... and to all of the schools and  mascots that were involved in the Pudsey and Pals shows...and of course Dave Benson Phillips and Pudsey. 

 

Sparks in the Park Sunday 24th July

Wow!  What a busy day.  Started out with a few hundred families with Special Needs Children having 2 hours in the morning. Benson's Fun Fair, Sussex Fun Days and Busybody's Face Painting provided everything free of charge and a wonderful time was had by all. Thanks to Tommy from Benson's, Becky from Sussex Fun Days and Steve and Jen from Busydays.

The Set4 Success Youth Sports Challenge was held in the afternoon with Teams from Millais, Forest and Tanbridge scooping the prizes which were presented by S4S Patrons and Children's TV stars Dave Benson Phillips & Sarah Jane Honeywell ,and Paralympic Swimming Gold Medalist  Sascha Kindred OBE, and 2012 Olympic Swimming hopeful Callum Hillicks.  Donations of £300 for S4S were collected on the day.

Our Charity Market did roaring trade from the 15000 visitors..... we raised £270 with our Coconut Shy and hopefully the other stall holders did even better.

Horsham Inter-Company Boules Competition

This year's Competition was won by Brock & Taylor...again. Runners up were Sainsburys and Sussex Bootcamps.  Thanks to all who participated and congrats to the winners. The picture shows Councillor Jim Rae presenting the Trophy to the winners.

Horsham Rotary Club gain 'Innovative and Flexible' Status 

Horsham Rotary Club has been selected by Rotary International to be a Pilot for a new type of Club being piloted by 200 Clubs worldwide. We are looking for people in the 25-50 age range to start a new groundbreaking Rotary Group in Horsham.... if you are interested in finding out more, please contact us.     

Set4 Success Media Launch

The Capitol Theatre Horsham hosted the launch of Set4Success on Tuesday 17th May. Champion Swimmer Karen Pickering MBE presented awards to 8 young talented sports people. The Ceremony was compered by Children’s TV Celebrity Dave Benson Phillips.

Making a Difference to Horsham

The Rotary Club of Horsham introduced a new scheme from March 2011 which aims to try and 'make a difference' to some individuals, families and organisations in and around Horsham. We are going to allocate at least £1000 from our funds each month to help individuals, families and not-for-profit organisations with small donations, small items or the provision of services where this assistance will...'make a difference' . Anyone can apply for help...and the whole process will be simple and speedy....just tell us what you need, and why you need it and how it will 'make a difference' to you, your family or your organisation . As at 12th Octomber, we have received 55 Applications of which over half  have been satisfied and many more are in progress and over £9000 donated.
