Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Blandford Stour
Formed in 1998, Blandford Stour Rotary Club has a membership of some 30+ aged between 32 and 65. Members are employed in local business and the professional communities including: advertising, agriculture, architecture, consultancy, engineering, estate agency, housing, manufacturing, medical, military, planning, property maintenance, publishing, retail and tourism. Individuals live in Blandford, Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton and the surrounding villages.
We meet once a week on Wednesday evening at 8pm and have a meal. Meetings are mainly held at the Crown Hotel in Blandford, but sometimes at local public houses in the area. Once a month an external speaker is invited to speak on a subject of interest.
We raise a considerable amount of money for charity through a series of events throughout the year.
The first Rotary club was formed in 1909 in Chicago. The organisation currently has 1.2 million members belonging to 32,000 clubs in 168 countries.
The key principles of Rotary are service, understanding and goodwill, each underpinned by fellowship with other members of the club and organisation. The objective of Rotary is to encourage and foster service as a basis or worthy enterprise and in particular: the development of friendship as an opportunity for service; maintenance of high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition that a Rotarian's occupation presents an opportunity to serve society; an ability to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.
So whilst we as members enjoy our friendship within the club, we as a club can make a real difference to many. For further information about the club, its activities, its charity work, do come and meet us one evening or as a prospective member, please feel free to contact anyone within Blandford Stour Rotary Club.
