Here are a few facts about Polio…….:  Eradicating polio has been Rotary’s main humanitarian focus for over 30 years. The amount of polio-endemic countries has dropped from 125 to just two, with over 2.5 billion children receiving vaccinations thanks to the help of Rotary. However, recent outbreaks in Nigeria show that the disease has not been beaten yet and more work needs to be done to help eradicate it completely. It is hoped that by the end of 2017 the world will be free of Polio. With eradication now closer than ever, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland’s latest campaign, Purple4Polio, is designed to unite communities to engage in activities as part of the final push to eradicate polio for good.

The Snooty Mehmaan is a fantastic restaurant and serves Indian and Thai food  - some photo’s to tempt you!!

Jacob raises money for Prospect House - Swindon

Trailblazers Interact Club

On Monday 27th June, Jacob Jackson, Chairman of the Trailblazers Interact Club based at Faringdon Community College and part of Faringdon and District Rotary Club, made a major sacrifice for charity, he had all of his hair shaved off in front of all his schoolmates at the Year 10 Assembly!

Jacob has been raising money for The Prospect Hospice in Swindon, where a family friend was cared for last year when suffering from cancer, and Helen and Douglas House, the hospice for children and young people, based in Oxford and a charity that Faringdon and District Rotary club has supported for many years,

The Trailblazers decided to raise money for these causes earlier in the year and discussed various fund raising ideas. Following to the letter of the Rotary organisation’s motto, “Service Above Self”, Jacob decided that he would lead from the front, although to date none of his colleagues have followed!

The shaving was expertly done by Mirella Draper of London Street Barbers, cheered on by Jacob’s “friends”,particularly when it got to shaving his eyebrows.

Tim Cowling, a member of Faringdon and District Rotary Club said; “We are extremely proud of our two Interact clubs at the Community College. They demonstrate all that is good about young people in our society, serving their community and having fun while doing so. Jacob is a great example to young people everywhere.”

To date, Jacob has raised approximately £650 for the charities and donations can still be made by visiting, JacobJacksonHeadshave or by contacting Faringdon Rotary Club.
