On Thursday 9th June due to a change in the non-availability of the room at the Gilvenbank Hotel President Brian Johnson welcomed 20 club Rotarians and 1 guest Rotary Assistant Governor Libby Seath to this a ZOOM lunch time meeting, which was our Club Assembly.
Last Sunday 5th June 28, 18 Rotarians and guests were blessed with lovely weather as we marked the Queens Jubilee in Walter Fletchers Garden with an afternoon tea.
President Brian Johnson by means of a power point display laid out the clubs plans and what he was looking for the club to be involved with for the next Presidential year, commencing in July. This covered environmental where we are heavily involved at Riverside Park, litter picking, the Rotary planter and looking after the Orchard. Foundation / International where Chantal Mrimi’ has a couple of projects lined up, one looking at a Lomond Hills walk and a Rwandan project, where she had recently visited. With these projects comes the possibility of applying for a District Grant. Discussion took place round fundraising events, and we are arranging to hold a Vintage afternoon tea once again at Studio8 on 23rd October and again hold a Comedy afternoon brunch. Membership although remaining steady could be improved and we need to keep recruiting a few bodies every year. A major focus that our President is going to be looking at is how to support the poor in our community. It looks likely that we will get requests to support individuals in the future. Angus Hogg to give all members a Zoom talk on Amazon project on June 27th
This Wednesday, in the absence of Scott Galloway, President Brian Johnson and new member Jean Haughey will be visiting Coaltown Primary School to let them know more about Rotary and taking the first steps to their involvement as a Rota Kids school.
This coming week 17th and 18th June is the district 1010 conference to be held in the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, where we are supporting District with some of the Admin and Geoff Sampson is giving a 15-minute talk about the Ukraine appeal.
Geoff Sampson advised that our Gavel competition, last Wednesday 8th June at the Gilvenbank hotel was only against Anstruther Rotary Club as sadly Alloa could not participate. Once again, the evening was a great success as the 4 players from each club had a lot of fun and laughter with Anstruther winning and moving into the semi-finals.
This coming week Thursday 16th June 2022 is a lunchtime meeting at the Gilvenbank Hotel commencing at 1pm prompt with our speaker who will be Douglas Ross from YES Recycling Glenrothes
