A breath of youthful fresh air came to the March Rotary Club on Monday 21st November, in the form of Rachel Reetzke, 22. This charming young lady from the small town of Franklin Kentucky is an Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by Rotary Club District 6710 in that State. From her opening introduction in Chinese Mandarin she captivated the large audience with her charm and obvious enjoyment in her studies. Now at University in Cambridge, she plans to return to Chengdu Province next year. During her last stay, she was able to visit the Rotary Club of Beijing, at present the only one ‘permitted’ in the whole of China. Understanding autism and related communication problems are the subjects and reason for her travels. Living in China, with ‘host families’ working in specialised schools, and dealing with learning difficulties, has given her the groundwork needed to continue research into finding positive assistance for those who suffer from this condition. Rachel captivated the audience, and is truly, an Ambassador for Rotary International.
