Yours Sincerely perform for Club

21/04/2011CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

24/03/2011 - Jan Conway

24/02/2011 - Fiona Brooks

10/02/2011 - Patrick Dixon: in the Mojave Desert ... and Las Vegas

One of the Club's better travelled members, Patrick gave an illustrated talk about his trip to the Untied States in August 2010.  The Joshua Tree, various enormous cacti, the coyote, mongoose, eagle and fluffy spiders featured amongst the pictured flora and fauna but the most impressive highlights were the shots of the landscapes - the barren Nevada Plateau, the colossal Hoover Dam and Colorado river, the Grand Canyon and the amazing hoodoos of Utah.  Amazing in another way were the hotels and lights of Las Vegas.  All in all a spectacular and colourful talk.

27/01/2011 - Open Night - Jim Hay: the railways of Berwickshire

John Marjoribanks, President of Duns Rotary, with Jim Hay.
Jim Hay, an expert on the local rail network pre the 'Beeching cuts', gave a most interesting talk on the railways of Berwickshire to Duns Rotarians many of whom can recall the steam trains puffing through the county. Jim outlined  historical highlight when the mighty 'Flying Scotsman' had to be diverted from the main line and had to make its way north via the Berwickshire branch line.

20/11/2011 - Business Meeting:   CotY Award     Open Night        Scocha Concert

The Club reviewed the minutes of the January Council meeting and made decisions to

  • repeat the Citizen of the Year Award initiated in2010. A request for nominations will appear in the Berwickshire News in due course with a closing date of 31 March.
  • hold an Open Night on 27 January so that non-members can see for themselves, at no cost, what Rotary is about.

The meeting also made plans for final arrangements for promoting and running the Scocha Concert set for Saturday 19th February in the Volunteer Hall.

13/01/2011 - Dr Dorothy Logie - Borders Health twins with Zambia
...................... and Duns Rotary Wins Web Award

16/12/2010 - DUNS ROTARIANS ROCK WITH 'YOURS SINCERELY'

At the Club's last meeting before Christmas Members were treated to more than turkey with all the trimmings. ...'Yours Sincerely', the Duns based girl band,  set things alight by playing a set for them.

Having sponsored the band to help them buy a PA system, Duns Rotarians were delighted that the girls came along - and that they played music from the 60's and 70's which many of them could identify with.  It was a great way to bring the 2010 season of meetings to a close.
Duns Rotary President, John Marjoribanks, said 'it's great that new talent is emerging in Duns: We were pleased to be able to help 'Yours Sincerely' and wish them every success for the future'.
