Matlock Rotary Club raise £3,000 for Rainbows Hospice

MATLOCK ROTARY GOLF DAY RAISES £3,000 FOR RAINBOWS HOSPICE

Matlock Rotary Club raised more than £3,000 at their Annual Charity Golf Day on Friday 9th September 2011 for 'Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People'.

Ninety six golfers, including New Zealand Test cricketer Iain O'Brien, took part in this twenty four team competition, held for the thirteenth time at Matlock Golf Club.

The winning team was 'Derwent Financial Services' represented by Rob Dence, James Morrell, Jamie Kernaghan and Ian Marr who completed their round with an aggregate score of 91 points, and received First Prize and the David Cooper Trophy.

Runners up were 'Twigg's Steelers' with team members David Allen, Sam Bown, Baden Edgson and Adam Gregory with a score of 90.

Third was 'Permafast' with team members Peter Beardsley, John Beardsley, Jamie Cluer and Mick Wain with 89, and in fourth place was 'Paul's Team' with Paul Edwards, Peter Field, Simon Peters and Bob Whyld, with 87 points.

The 'nearest the pin' prizes were won by Jamie Cluer (10th) and Alan Watson (15th), the 'most accurate drive' prize was won by Peter Beardsley (17th) and the 'nearest the pin second shot' was won by Peter Holdcroft (18th).

Main sponsors of the event were Sovereign Wealth LLP, prize sponsors were William Twigg and each of the holes was generously sponsored by a local company.

During the prize presentation John Shipman, Matlock Rotary Club Golf Day Organiser, thanked Matlock Golf Club for the use of their splendid golf course and facilities

In addition, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Matlock, he thanked all individuals, businesses and Rotary clubs, who supported and sponsored this very successful day.

Peter Wigglesworth, Senior Vice President of the Rotary Club of Matlock concluded proceedings by presenting Paula North, Derbyshire Fundraiser for Rainbows Hospice, with a provisional cheque for £3,000, the balance to be presented at a club meeting.
