COMMUNITY AND VOCATIONAL COMMITTEE REPORT FEBRUARY 2013
 

In association with members of the C&VS Committee and with the support of our club we have -

 

placed, "Memories of the Day that War Broke Out'  in the three libraries  reference sections - Bideford, Northam and Appledore.

 

Provided and Installed in the Bideford and District Hospital a 'Cross Trainer' Exercise Machine in the Physiotherapy Unit.

 

Supported the Northam Memory Cafe and the Springfield Daycare Centre by providing  various reference books and equipment that stimulate and  will be of assistance and help to the carers and those who live with the problem of Dementia.

 

Provided help and promoted the work of the Devon Freewheelers, the group of Motorcyclists who work in conjunction with the Northern  Devon Healthcare Trust  who  transport  blood, organs, drugs, and breastmilk milk to those in urgent medical need outside of normal working hours -between 1700 and 0700 each day and 24 hours at weekends and Bank Holidays, working in conjunction with our local hospitals. The group have a No Cost Contract for their work and receive no payment for the work involved.

 

The club's Citizen of the Year Award was made to Jean Stewart in recognition of her Stirling work in helping the disadvantaged members of our community.

 

 

Presented 295 Usbourne Children's' Dictionaries to the Year Six Children who attend our local Primary Schools.
