When, after fifty-seven years, Tonbridge Inner Wheel was disbanded in 1991, many friendships had been formed and it seemed a pity to lose the opportunity of regular contact. So Jane Adams and Sylvia Davis sent a letter in August of that year to all Rotary wives suggesting that perhaps they would like to continue to meet on an informal basis once a month.
This was agreed and the ‘club’ has been in existence ever since. It is successful because there are no obligations on anyone except for the two members who, in rotation, organise the monthly meeting. Both current Rotary members' wives and past members' widows join together in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.
