Special Activities: AGM Report
This has been a pretty lean year on the Special Activities front.
The main fund raiser has been the collection with the 'Rotary Express' at the Co-op at Ackworth and Tesco, Pontefract.
It has been generally accepted by our committee that the activities of the little engine should be extended into the summer period, possibly at Summer Fetes and the like. It has also been suggested that we apply to the Wakefield MDC to see if we could take it into Pontefract Park on fine weekends over the summer. A letter has been sent, but has vanished without reply into the machinery of Wakefield MDC. I can not help but feel that our request may fail on the grounds of noise pollution. Many people go into the park for a quiet relaxing day and may find the music playing less than uplifting. I feel this may be the cause of the lack of response so far to our request. If I don't hear back in a week or so, I will try again.
Another thing which has been pinpointed with regards to fund raising, is that the committee is far too small. Steps have been taken in an attempt to rectify this situation.
We have recently been involved in another collection at Tesco, on this occasion not for club funds, but for the Marie Curie Charity. This was a very successful two days and the cash collected was far in excess of our own collection at Christmas.
The Special Activities Committee would like to thank everyone who came out and helped during
The collection days.
