International & Foundation Service Committee

The members of the International & Foundation Service Committee are responsible for finding speakers for the speaker meetings in September, December, March 2013 and the following June.  A total of 7 speakers one of which may well be a visiting foreign Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.

The committee is also hoping to arrange a couple of fund-raising events during the year and it has in mind a concert by the Swindon Male Voice Choir and "Question Time", a function in the same style as the popular BBC TV programme.  Both events will be staged in Highworth.

One of the international charities it would like to support is "Life Straw".   Life Straw is a portable water filter that effectively removes all bacteria and parasites responsible for causing common diarrhoeal diseases.  It requires no electrical power or spare parts and can be carried around for easy access to give safe and clean drinking water for the user. The personal model costs between £8 to £10, depending on the number ordered, and can be sent anywhere around the world.
