Our President for the Rotary year 2017-18 is Les Fry.
I started my working life as a Dairy Farmer on a 400 acre family farm located in West Dorset, with 180 pedigree Holstein cattle. I also ran a small flock of Pedigree Dorset Horn and Poll Dorset sheep.
I left the farm and joined Dorset Police in August 1990 and have spent the majority of my service in a variety of Uniform rolls on the front line, working my way up to the rank of Inspector. I very much enjoy working in the community and helping people to solve problems and facilitating opportunities. I am currently the Custody Inspector working across Bournemouth and Weymouth with particular responsibility for Weymouth cell block.
I have been a member of the Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary Club since 2006, and consider Rotary a wonderful opportunity to continue the community work that I so enjoy, Rotary is an excellent vehicle to make a difference be that large or small.
I enjoy a watching Rugby, be that watching my sons play local Club Rugby or enjoying the International game. I was lucky enough to get a role for England Rugby World cup in 2015 based at Exeter looking after the volunteers within the ground.
I was part of the Dorchester Marathon 2017 organising team, who were extremely pleased with the success of the event and how popular it has proven to be within the Community. We have managed to raise a considerable sum for good causes.
My wife and I recently spent 2 1/2 weeks in Kenya volunteering in a small very poor rural community, seeing the hardship suffered, yet how positive, friendly and welcoming the people are yet few personal possessions. An eye opening trip.
Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary Club is a very active and vibrant Club and I am very honoured to be the President for 2017- 18.
