District Governor Martin Greaves inducted Theo Subryan as  President of Newent Interact Club at its inaugural meeting on Tuesday 12th June.

He said how pleased he was at the inauguration of the first Interact club in District 1100 for a number of years and wished the new club every success.

In his response President Theo described the enthusiasm of the members and introduced them, including Secretary Grace, Treasurer Hattie, PR officer Natalia and Vice President Tim.

He explained that their International Project would be Kisumu and that they would be speaking to the Mayor of Newent Roger Beard, who was present, about a suitable local charity to support.

Also present were members of the Rotary Club of Newent and District, the sponsors of the Newent Interact Club, the Chairman of Governors of Newent Community School, Steve Huckvale and members of staff including Ashley Mortimer who has played a key role in establishing the club.

Members of the Newent and District Rotary Club are proud to have sponsored the formation of an Interact Club at Newent Community School, after many years of working with the school.

Interact is an organisation, sponsored by Rotary for young people, aged 12 - 18. It seeks to develop - Leadership skills and personal integrity Helpfulness and respect for others.

Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work.

International understanding and goodwill.

Much of this has been happening at Newent for many years, with the school`s Exchange scheme with a school in Kisumu, Kenya and its work, alongside Newent Rotary Club, to provide the school, with desperately needed facilities. The Club and the School have worked together in other ways, so the creation of the Interact Club is warmly welcomed.
