As the 15 Rotarians gathered, the rain began to fall. But it failed to spoil the fun of the competitors as they learned the rules of golf croquet and then put into practice what they had learned.
Initially, there were a few wayward shots from those who declared they had not played the game in years. There was some doubt about the veracity of some of those protestations of lack of practice. But very soon all players were performing well.
Andrew, of course, is an old hand and with Harry topped the leader board.
Martin Sharp and Jim Matthews were rock bottom but could take some consolation in being the only pair with a 'hole in one' victory with a single shot.
The event ended with a very acceptable curry in what most members still think of as "The Pavilion"
President David had led a well-deserved round of applause for our hosts, mentors and umpires from Leicester Croquet Club (not forgetting schoolboy Jacob who partnered Lindsay) and to Richard Baker who had arranged the event.
