A new chairman has been appointed to the Leicestershire and Rutland branch of a charity which looks after ex-servicemen and women.
Admiral Sir James Perowne will take over as chairman of Leicestershire and Rutland Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) next month.
Admiral Perowne said: "I was delighted to accept this position as SSAFA does so much for local ex-servicemen and their dependants.
"Over 20 years ago, my father had a stroke that left him badly paralysed and SSAFA did much to get the funding he so urgently needed to help with nursing care and convert his home.
"In some small way, this is how I can return all that SSAFA did for my family."
Admiral Perowne joined the Navy in 1965 and commanded both diesel and nuclear hunter killer submarines as part of the Devonport submarine squadron.
He later became the head of the Submarine Service as Flag Officer Submarines in 1996, and retired in 2002.
