Who is this actress? The answer might have helped us win through to Round 2.

QUESTION:  What was the film which featured the Robertson family?   (Answer below)

Wednesday, 26 September 2012 had arrived.  The big day!  This evening would see the first heat of the 2012/13 Rotary District 1070 Quiz.  This was one of seven area heats, held at various convenient venues throughout the District, with the winner of each heat going on to the Final to compete for the Silver Salver.

A team of four from Oadby had entered regularly over the last ten or so years and indeed, had won the Salver on two occasions. This year we entered two teams.  No pressure then!

At half past seven the Leicester Stage Hotel (home ground) was buzzing with excitement for two reasons.  First, it was good so see old friends and quiz sparring partners again; and secondly - the supper was being served.

At exactly 8.00 pm the two hardworking organisers, Robert Bracegirdle from the Loughborough Beacon Club and Eddie Pearson from Melton Mowbray Aurora, opened the proceedings with a welcome and explained the format - ten questions in each of five themed rounds - and the rules (eg Rule 1 - "The Question Master is always right").  Then off we go.

Oadby "A" team started slowly and improved, while the "B" team had a good first round (pity about the second and third!).  Then, a pause for sustenance.  It must have been the oranges! because the "B" team surged in the last two rounds so that at the end of the competition proper, the lead was shared between Oadby "B" and Leicester "B" -   28 points each.  So, it's TIEBREAK time!

Now, if you can remember so far back, there was a question at the beginning of this piece.  That was the Tiebreak.

Sorry to say, Oadby "B"'s answer was wrong (well, not quite right!!) and Leicester "B" gave the correct answer (which appeared to be arrived at by a special technique of "perm any one from four and cross out the ones that you can't spell!).  The Railway Children was the answer which gave them  a well deserved victory.

Well done.

PS The actress pictured above: It's Jenny Agutter, of course!
