Rotary is short for Rotary International, a world-wide association of 32,600 clubs for professional and business people.  There are more than 1,212,000 members across the globe pledged to:

Serve the community locally, nationally and internationally.

            Encourage high ethical standards.

            Work for peace and goodwill.

In the United Kingdom alone there are 59,000 members in 1,800 clubs.  Five of which are located in Oldham.

The Rotary Club of Oldham is a group of local residents who have a common aim of having fun, enjoying fellowship and helping the community.

Meetings are held weekly at our headquarters. Hotel Smokies, Ashton Road, Oldham, OL8 3HX. at Monday lunch time, they last for two hours except for the first meeting of each month which is held on the evening.  Whilst it's not essential that members come to every meeting;  regular attendance helps to build new friendships; it is more critical that you support our aims.

Because it is an international organisation, Rotarians are welcome at every club anywhere in the world.

The selected projects and fundraising events of the Oldham Club, as with other clubs, are all aimed at serving the community either at home or overseas.

Without exception the projects are not only about improving the lives of all people, they also provide a great amount of enjoyment, relaxation and satisfaction to the participating Rotarians.

Enjoyment     because you are involved with a team of like-minded individuals.

Relaxation     because it represents a break from onerous demands of modern day working.

Satisfaction    because the end result helps to improve our communities.

Social events also feature importantly in the calendar, but more about these later.
