Dan was a high ranking policeman until 1999. Apart from his usual police duties he was very much involved in anti terrorism. He was the first on the scene at the Regent's Park bombing where many lost their lives. He has a degree from Kings College, London, in Human Behaviour. However,Dan did not speak about his no doubt, interesting career, but his travelling in retirement.
 
Dan said that since the age of seven he had dreamt of travelling the Trans Siberian Railway.From Bedford he took the Eurostar to 
Brussels,then he travelled by train to Frankfurt and Warsaw. Dan described the difficulty he had in getting visas to Belarus,Russia and China.At times because of the length of the application forms,it took him six hours to complete them.He said that at one point it took him also six hours to queue for a toilet. Dan gave details of various sites and places of interest he visited on his journey,before arriving in Beijing some 22 days after he left Bedford.
