The family of Rotary came together when the RotaKids Club from Pomphlett Primary School met the Inner Wheel and Rotary Clubs of Roborough - their sponsoring club - at the newly renovated Sensory Garden in the grounds of Rockville House in Plymstock.
The family of Rotary came together when the RotaKids Club from Pomphlett Primary School met the Inner Wheel and Rotary Clubs of Roborough - their sponsoring club - at the newly renovated Sensory Garden in the grounds of Rockville House in Plymstock. The renovation work is a joint project between Saltram (Plymstock), Mayflower and Roborough Rotary Clubs and Plymouth Lions Club and the garden will be formally opened by the the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mrs V A Pengelly on 27th February.
As part of the planting work, following renovation, a gift of wallflower seeds had been given to all members of the Roborough Inner Wheel Club as a token of their theme for the year - sow a seed of friendship. Following the sowing of the seeds last September the germinated seeds had been nurtured and grown into 50 plants which the pupils from the RotaKids Club planted in the Sensory Garden.
This was a wonderful outing for the children and the photograph shows them, with Louise Galloway, the lead teacher for RotaKids, having just finished their planting. The residents of Rockville House are severely disabled and it is hoped that the garden will be a source of stimulation, energy and pleasure to them in the summertime. Louise said the children returned back to their afternoon lessons feeling proud and happy to have served their community.
Also present were Caroline Easton, President of Roborough Rotary Club, and Club members Phil Greenwood and Hugh Baker, who have all devoted much time to the renovation work over the last few months; Andrea Parker, President of Roborough Inner Wheel, Honorary Member of Roborough Rotary Club and the driving force behind the establishment of the RotaKids Club; and Inner Wheel members, Beryl Norton and Bridget Baker.
Rockville House is a purpose-built Independence South West facility in Plymouth which assists disabled adults and wheelchair users with their day-to-day living in a friendly and homely atmosphere.

more What does Santa do after Christmas? He goes on holiday of course. This year Roborough Rotary Club were lucky enough to catch him at the Moorland Garden Hotel and enlist his help in handing out some of the donations from their Christmas Sleigh Collection.
